Interdisciplinary Education Programme – applicable to admissions from the 2024/2025 academic year

The education programme at the Doctoral School of Medical and Health Sciences of the Jagiellonian University lasts for 8 semesters (4 years) and concludes with the submission of a doctoral dissertation. It prepares doctoral candidates to obtain the degree of Doctor (PhD) in the field of Medical and Health Sciences, in one of the following disciplines: Medical Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or Health Sciences.

Education at the Doctoral School is based on the Education Programme and an Individual Research Plan (IRP), which must be submitted within 12 months from the commencement of doctoral education.

The Education Programme consists of three components:

• compulsory methodological training;

• specialized training in research methodology, divided into discipline-specific tracks (Medical Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or Health Sciences);

• supplementary training focused on professional development and transferable (soft) skills.

Doctoral candidates choose their discipline-specific track before the beginning of the second year of study. The selected track must correspond to the discipline in which the doctoral dissertation is being prepared.

Doctoral Programme in Medical Sciences

The Doctoral Programme in Medical Sciences at the Doctoral School of Medical and Health Sciences of the Jagiellonian University lasts 8 semesters (4 years) and concludes with the submission of a doctoral dissertation. It prepares doctoral candidates to obtain the degree of Doctor (PhD) in the field of Medical and Health Sciences, in the discipline of Medical Sciences.

Education is conducted within the framework of the Doctoral Programme, based on the Education Programme and an Individual Research Plan (IRP) submitted within 12 months from the commencement of doctoral education.

The curriculum consists of four components:

• methodological training;

• training in additional research competencies;

• specialized training within the doctoral programme;

• supplementary training in professional and transferable (soft) skills.

Throughout the programme, doctoral candidates complete a wide range of elective courses.

To successfully complete the programme, doctoral candidates are required to:

• complete 60 hours of professional teaching practice; and

• undertake a research internship of at least two weeks at a foreign research institution.

Doctoral Programme in Pharmacology and Pharmacy

The Doctoral Programme in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the Doctoral School of Medical and Health Sciences of the Jagiellonian University lasts 8 semesters (4 years) and concludes with the submission of a doctoral dissertation. It prepares doctoral candidates to obtain the degree of Doctor (PhD) in the field of Medical and Health Sciences, in the discipline of Pharmacology and Pharmacy.
